Why Aqua Fitness? Discover the Benefits of Working Out in Water

Looking for a workout that builds strength, gets your heart pumping and is actually enjoyable?

It might be time to take your workout to the water.

Aqua Fitness is a fun, full-body workout that uses the natural resistance and support of water to create an effective exercise environment. While Aqua Aerobics has traditionally had a reputation for being a gentler form of exercise, modern Aqua Fitness can be so much more.

From strength and core work to cardio, dance-inspired movement, yoga, and gentle exercise, there’s an Aqua workout for almost everyone.

Why exercise in water?

One thing that makes Aqua Fitness different from exercising on land is the water itself.

Water provides natural resistance as you move, so your muscles work throughout your workout. At the same time, the water’s buoyancy reduces the load on your body, making aquatic exercise a lower-impact option than many land-based activities.

Research has found that aquatic exercise can benefit cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength, balance, and physical function, while water’s buoyancy can make exercise more comfortable for people who find some land-based exercise challenging.

Another important benefit is that you can adjust the workout to suit you.

By changing your speed, range of movement, resistance, and intensity, you can make many Aqua exercises gentler or more challenging.

Aqua isn’t just for one age or fitness level

Forget the stereotype that Aqua Aerobics is only for older adults!

Aqua Fitness can be adapted for a wide range of ages, abilities and fitness levels. Whether you’re beginning your fitness journey, looking to complement your existing training, returning to exercise, or simply looking for something different, there are plenty of ways to make the water work for you.

And you don’t need to be a swimmer to participate.

Our pool is 1.2 metres deep throughout, allowing participants to remain standing during their workout. Our qualified Aqua Fitness Instructors guide each session, with a focus on correct technique and form while keeping classes varied, engaging and enjoyable.

Find your Aqua workout

Not everyone wants the same thing from a workout, which is why our Aqua program includes different class styles.

Mixed Aqua

Our Mixed Aqua sessions are a full-body workout that combines training styles, including strength, yoga-inspired movement, dance, cardio, and muscle-group-focused exercises.

Every class is a little different, making Mixed Aqua a great choice if you enjoy variety in your workouts.

Abs & Core Aqua

Ready to level up your Aqua workouts?

Abs & Core Aqua puts greater emphasis on the muscles that support your trunk, stability and movement. Using water resistance, these sessions include targeted exercises designed to challenge your abdominal and core muscles while still delivering the benefits of exercising in water.

Gentle Aqua

Prefer to take things at a gentler pace?

Gentle Aqua offers a lower-intensity workout focused on comfortable movement, mobility, balance, strength and general fitness.

It’s a welcoming way to keep moving in the supportive environment of warm water, with exercises that can be adjusted to suit individual abilities.

Small classes. Qualified instructors. A welcoming environment.

For us, Aqua Fitness isn’t about keeping up with the person next to you. It’s about finding a way to move your body that works for you.

Our Aqua classes are held in our private swim centre and are led by experienced, nationally qualified Aqua Fitness Instructors. With small class sizes, our instructors can provide guidance around technique and help participants modify exercises where appropriate.

Whether you’re looking for a challenging workout, some extra movement in your week, or a gentler way to stay active, you might be surprised by just how much you can do in the water.
